Knotty pine paneling is one of America’s favorite wall coverings, especially for log homes, cabins, and cottages. There are some special trims for base, casing, ceiling, corner, and half log applications to mate with your pine paneling.
All of the following trim types are made from sustainable pine wood and kiln-dried to the correct moisture content. Each piece is hand-inspected to ensure the quality you expect for your home. They are available in unfinished and pre-finished conditions. Let’s take a look to see how they can make your home more attractive.
Casing For Doors And Windows
Trims that go around door and window openings are called casing. They make attractive frames for doors and windows and cover any gaps at the edges of the paneling. Three favorites are:
- Colonial Casing is 2 ¼” wide with an attractive profile (shown)
- Round Over Casing is 2 ¾” wide with the top and bottom rounded
- Three-Bead Casing is 2 ¾” wide with 3 rounded over beads on the bottom edge
Like most of the other trims, casings are ¾” thick and 95” long. Every time you go out the door or look at the windows, you will be pleased with the casing’s outstanding designs and quality. This video illustrates how to install these trims.
Ceiling Knotty Pine Paneling Trims
Ceiling trims are placed where the tops of walls and ceilings meet. They range from small and simple trims to larger and beautiful crown molding. The three favorite styles are these:
- Beveled-Edge has one beveled edge for a clean look
- Crown Molding (pictured here) sets at a 45° angle to the wall
- Three-Bead has three bead cuts on the bottom edge
All three trims are ¾” thick and 95” in length to provide strength and convenience in installation. You can stain these ceiling trims to match your walls or stain them with a different color to add contrast and excitement to the walls.
Baseboards For Good Looks and Protection
As you know, baseboards are installed at the bottom or base of walls where they touch the floors. They have three purposes we all appreciate:
- Add more beauty and color to the room
- Cover the space where the paneling meets the floor
- Protects the wall paneling from damage and discoloration
Our baseboards are typically ¾” thick, 2 ¼” to 4 ½” wide, and 95” long in exciting colonial, round-over, and triple-bead styles. Learn how to install them like a pro.

Small Knotty Pine Trims
Small-size pine trims are another choice to keep trims simple and less expensive. The three favorite styles are quarter round, cove, and base shoe.
Quarter Round is a convex trim that is shaped like a quarter circle. It is one of the most common trim types.
Cove Trim is typically used in corners where walls meet ceilings. It can also be used on cabinets, shelves, mantles, and other applications. A concave profile gives cove trim its distinctive shape.
Base Shoe, also known as shoe molding, is a thin strip of wood that runs along the bottom of baseboards. It has a 90 degree angle on the backside and the front of the shoe is slightly rounded over. All three styles are available in 95” lengths for your convenience.
Half Log D-Trims
Half log D-trims work well with both pine paneling and pine log siding. They add a rustic and strong-looking appearance. Each piece is secured with long nails, screws, or glue in these areas:
- Around doors
- Around windows
- As baseboards
- Other places of your choice
Half log D-trims are available in 2”x4” and 2”x6” sizes in 95” lengths that can be cut to the desired size. The dark knots and grain patterns add character to this type of sturdy interior trim. These trims can also be used with painted drywall as well as pine paneling. They accept any color stain and clear coat finishes
Corner Trims: Outside And Inside
Inside and outside wall corners need trims to dress them up and cover the joints where two pieces of paneling meet. These trims can be nailed or glued into place:
Outside Corner Trims are a square “L” shape with a square inside corner to go over a 90° joint and are mounted vertically. The outside corner is rounded over to provide a finished look.
Inside Corner Trims are square-shaped to fit snugly in corners and have a rounded-over outside corner that you can see. This trim is also mounted vertically. Both of these trims are available in 1” and 1 ½” widths and 95” long.
Have fun selecting, staining, and installing the trims in your home or cabin.
